We are officially in 2019 and I realized I did not do a 2018 in review pos (I blame the craziness and busyness of the holidays!). Instead, I want to do a look into 2019 and what our plans and goals are as a family.
The big one this year is a wedding…our wedding! This has been 2 years in the making and we are excited for it to finally be here. This will be the 3rd wedding Alex has ever attended, and 2nd for Mary. Since we have kids, and many of my friends have kids, we are making it a kid friendly event. We are also working on making it special needs friendly because so many of our friends have a variety of needs. This has added a bit more thought and planning, but not as much as you might expect.
Late last year, we were looking into Mary’s progress and decided to set a goal of her walking by 18 months. This is a goal, not a deadline. If she reaches it, great! If not, we keep working at it. If she does reach this goal, then she might be able to walk down the aisle at our wedding with her brother, instead of being pulled in a wagon. If she does not, then she will look adorable in her dress being pulled along by her big brother.
For Alex, I know school skills will be a big focus for us. There are some skills he is struggling with and we want to find ways to help him. We know he is smart, it’s just a matter of finding the right key. Our next goal for him is to be able to read a book without help from us. We even have a special book we have been working on for this goal. He wants to read to his baby sister so that has been great motivation for him.
We have a lot going on within our family, so organization is a must for us. That is my personal goal for the year: to find an organization system that works for us now. What worked for me when it was just me and Alex is not working now that Bryan and Mary are here too. There will be a lot of trial and error, but I have no doubt that we will find something.
I am keeping a positive outlook for 2019, and hoping that it holds less in the way of doctor appointment and more of positive experiences for our family as a whole.
Happy 2019!
